Finland’s unemployment rate reached 10.2 percent in the second quarter of 2025 which represents a year-on-year rise of 0.9 percentage points according to figures that were released by Statistics Finland.

The Labour Force Survey reported that an average of 297,000 unemployed individuals between April and June which is 27,000 more than during the same quarter in 2024. The jobless rate for that period last year stood at 9.3 percent.
Simultaneously, the number of people in employment fell as compared to the previous year there were 14,000 fewer individuals working during the three-month timeframe. On average a little over 2.6 million people were employed with a statistical margin of error of ±18,000.
Total hours worked decreased by slightly more than two percent.
According to Statistics Finland much of the decline in employment was due to job cuts in sectors that were predominantly employing women. The number of employed women dropped by 18,000 compared to the same period last year while the number of employed men increased by 5,000.
Wholesale and retail trade experienced the most significant employment decline whereas the construction sector recorded the most noticeable growth.
These findings suggest a broader transformation in the labour market with contractions visible in service and trade industries while certain manual labor sectors are beginning to stabilise.
