The court found him guilty of trafficking a variety of illegal substances including approximately 25,000 buprenorphine pills (an opioid), 300 grams of cocaine, 2.5 kilograms of hashish and cannabis and more than 3,500 Oxycontin tablets. Authorities estimated the total financial profit from the drug operation to exceed 380,000 euros.
According to details from the police investigation and the indictment the young man played a central role in importing and distributing the narcotics within Finland. Born in 2007, he was found to have supplied drugs to both street-level dealers and individual users.
The court also convicted him of unlawful debt collection. In one instance he unlawfully entered a man’s residence to steal personal property.
The defendant’s parents were also brought to court on accusations of aggravated money laundering however the court ultimately acquitted them of those charges.
Prosecutors had claimed the parents were complicit in laundering money by hiding the proceeds from their son’s drug activities. Police recovered over 127,000 euros in cash during the investigation some of which was discovered hidden in the defendant’s bedroom in Ullanlinna which is a well-known Helsinki neighborhood noted for its art nouveau architecture and seaside cafes.
During their initial search officers seized nearly 40,000 euros from the teen’s bedroom. Later, the parents reportedly found more hidden money and moved it into a shoebox in their own room. When police conducted further searches they uncovered 69,800 euros in banknotes stored in the parents’ bedroom.
While the parents admitted to hiding the money they told the court they chose not to alert authorities because they were trying to avoid worsening their son’s legal troubles.
