“Attempted Murder Investigation in Helsinki’s Kipparlahti Loop Temporarily Disrupts Itäväylä Traffic”

On Saturday evening police responded to a violent incident in the Kipparlahti that is the loop area of Herttoniemi Helsinki according to a statement from the Helsinki Police Department.

The patrol units found an adult victim at the scene who had sustained injuries that required hospital care although police confirmed that the injuries were not life-threatening.

Moreover, one adult suspect has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities indicated that the suspect and the victim were previously acquainted and based on current information no other individuals were targeted in the incident.

Multiple police units were positioned on the Kulosaari Bridge accompanied by ambulances and a mobile police command center typically used in large-scale operations was also stationed in front of the Herttoniemi metro station.

Due to the situation traffic on Itäväylä near the Kulosaari Bridge was temporarily halted around 10:00 p.m. but normal flow resumed before 10:30 p.m.

According to police and STT reports no firearms were discharged during the operation and no serious injuries occurred. STT also noted that numerous heavily armed officers were observed on-site. The police carried assault rifles in the closed-off section near Kipparlahti.

The traffic block was lifted later in the evening at approximately 11:30 p.m.
